Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape. I'm glad to be in the company of 11 million Americans who enjoy the physical and emotional benefits of yoga. Yoga keeps me flexible, fluid and centered. It also brings me strong, elongated musculature and increased bone density. Yoga poses offer a very nice counterpoint to the constant forward-bending posture necessitated by daily activities.

Keeping fit for life is my biggest priority, above all else. I play soccer in an adult co-ed league and have for many years. I run, bike and practice yoga on a weekly basis to keep myself in the shape I want both inside and out. Soccer's always been my true love, but when I tore my ACL and meniscus in 2008, I had to find new ways of challenging myself while I healed for two years. I don't let physical or emotional setbacks get in my way.

I am so thankful for having the passion for cycling living inside of me. If it weren't for this, I'm not sure that my life would be as healthy and happy as it is today. I keep this 41-year-old body rocking by getting out on my road bike for around 150 miles a week, and I keep my mind young by getting out on my urban bike and pretending I'm a kid cruising the streets. Cycling is more than just a passion of mine, it is a lifestyle.

I am a former college swimmer who always hated running, until I ran my first 10K in 2006. Since then, I have been hooked on racing. I ran my first marathon in 2008 and completed my first Ironman triathlon last June. Currently, I am attempting to run 16 marathons in 16 different states within one year. I started last October and have completed nine of them so far. Every marathon I run is painful, but I absolutely love the feeling I get at the fini

I am a 39-year-old (and holding on tight) mom of three girls, and staying healthy and fit has always been important in our family. I have always exercised, but a few years ago I started taking a cardio kick boxing class at Ernie Reyes World Martial Arts. This is not your typical aerobics workout. We are taught by fourth-degree black belts and we wear full boxing gloves and push our bodies to extreme limits while learning techniques that can help

Rain or shine (and it's usually sunny in gorgeous Austin), I am always doing something to keep my body fit. I absolutely cannot live without running. The feeling I get after a seven-mile run around Lady Bird Lake is the purest form of joy I could ever imagine. Along with joy, running gives me confidence. I competed in this year's LiveStrong Austin Half Marathon, and now feel I can conquer anything life throws at me! After my daily runs, I love go

I love integrating exercise with nutrition and education to better myself as a whole. I do mainly weight circuit training because it is an exercise system I can use at all ages. I supplement strength training with running and biking as cardiovascular exercise and include yoga for flexibility trai

In only my second organized group bike ride ever, I rode in the Autism Ride at Berry Creek Park. I rode the 24-mile course in just under 3 hours. Not too bad for a lifelong tennis player (I work out two or three times a week), a beginner biker who knows how to use only four of the 21 gears on his new bike, and who is 74 years young with two recent hip replacements. Everything seemed uphill, like an Escher painting, with the wind blowing in my fac

When I injured my knees from snowboarding, I thought I would never be able to participate in cardio workouts again. That's when I started Russian-style kettlebell strength and cardio training. The kettlebell "swings" (effects similar to jogging but without moving your feet) are not only pain-free but healed my constant knee pain.
Yoga is complementary to kettlebell workouts; they share many of the same movements and they both concentrate on breathing techniques.

I walk 3.25 miles daily as well as doing "heroic" gardening - that is to say landscaping my acre with cactus, agave and yucca in the limestone caliche and solid rock here in Hudson Bend.
I weigh 170 pounds and am 5 foot 10 inches tall. I'm trying to get to 165 pounds and 6 feet, but wine and heredity keep holding me back.
I did, however, climb Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador to the base of the glacier at age 67 and have photographic proof.

I love staying fit & being healthy because it makes me feel more optimistic, energized & confident about the other parts of my life. There's also nothing better than a long workout to decompress and clear your head. In a city as dynamic and athletic as Austin, if you're not doing something active, you're falling behind the crowd! My weekly routine consists of four to six workouts. I run and take spin classes for cardio.

Keeping fit as one enters the golden years can be quite a task. Having two 12-year-old sons (George and James) at the age of 68 is all the incentive you need!
Since I love hiking, I have taken the boys to New Zealand for a 33-mile hike along the Milford Track. They loved it, and that has continued a tradition of summer trips that do not involve as much traveling. We have a family ranch in northern Colorado, just below the Wyoming border.

I ride a skateboard at least three times a week in local ditches and skate parks. I ride hard, so I know I am getting a good cardio workout. I breathe hard and sweat a lot. I also like to ride bowls and banks that you can ride nonstop. That requires a lot of "pumping," so it's like doing a whole bunch of squats.

In celebration of our upcoming 83rd & 84th birthdays, we recently hiked about 25 miles during a period of several days amid the golden aspen trees in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. We capped it off with an ascent of 11,420-foot Twin Sisters, a double-peaked mountain about 5 miles south of Estes Park. The just-under-4-mile trail starts at approximately 9,500 feet, so the just-under-2,000-foot elevation gain was not forbiddingly steep.

Here's something realistic: I'm about 20 or 25 overweight, but still consider myself fit at 222 pounds. I work out on average one time a week for 60 to 90 minutes. I try to get a second workout in on the weekend for another 90 minutes, but this doesn't always happen. I enjoy jumping rope, riding my mountain bike around Town Lake and doing pushups and sit ups.During my one regular workout, I use an elliptical machine for 30 minutes & lift weights.

I love to work out. My ideal workout regimen includes hitting the weights four or five times a week and doing cardiovascular exercise like running three times a week. I watch everything I eat.

Swimming is good to do because you're exercising, and to be a good swimmer you need to eat fruits and veggies. Swim team is fun because if you win at city you can go to state, and if you do well then you go to nationals! They have neighborhood meets and the winter games. You win ribbons, and you can enter pretty much anything.

In January 1990, my daughter was 1, my son was 5, and I was stuck on the couch. I bought a 95-pound plastic kayak with two seats and an open cockpit. I loaded the boat onto the roof of my sedan and drove it to the end of a concrete culvert. I wrestled the boat off the car and into to the water and confronted a dilemma. Children in the boat first, leaving me onshore; or me first, cajoling them to climb in? 19 years later I'm still paddling.

I am not the gym type but recently changed my mind. My motivation? Bird watching! I need stamina for weekend field trips like those offered by the Travis Audubon Society, and for "extreme birding" like the dawn-to-dusk Christmas bird counts, where we count the number of species seen and the numbers of individual birds seen. Upper- and lower-body strength training a couple of times per week make the hike easier when there is a cool bird at the end

I get fit with a virtual walk on Route 66 on AARP's Web site. It's a great program that lets you keep track of how many minutes (or miles) you walk each day. You record your time and move in one of four vehicles along the famous route. In addition to tracking your miles, you can get information about the town you are passing through. I also started ice skating a few years ago, which gives me a place to exercise during the dreaded cedar season.

Additionally, I move jumps around and, several times a week, I load and unload 50-pound bags of feed from my truck. I also load and unload hay. I tend to be mostly vegetarian and consume a fair amount of monounsaturated fats. I don't count calories.

I first picked up a tennis racquet when I was a kid. Back then, I had no idea that I still would be playing in my late 40s. From an early age I played and tried various training methods. A two-handed backhand was a novelty stroke, and many complimented me on my form. It just seemed natural but not something I would be doing 25 years later ... this is a sport for a lifetime, and if I am in good health, I will be stroking into my golden years.

We now take on the hills in and around Austin. We did a 103-mile ride out around Johnson City and Blanco last fall. Then we became only the second tandem team ever to attempt the Tour das Hugel in Austin - 108 miles of all of Austin's most brutal hills.

I actually started walking to supplement my twice-weekly gym workouts before I got my beautiful red Doberman, Cayenne. So when Cayenne came into my life, I simply added her to the routine. Now, it's more than routine; it's a required daily habit for us.

Once you get the general hooping motion down, you can experiment with heavier hoops for an intense abdominal workout and light hoops for dancing and tricks. Hooping works every muscle from your fingers to your toes and is a great way to express yourself.

(John Tschirhart, 87)

Throughout my early life, I swam and rode a bicycle. I seldom got five pounds over my ideal weight. Today, in spite of painful arthritis, I do two miles every morning around my circle driveway. That keeps me healthy. I have a good heart and good lungs. I eat moderately, don't take myself too seriously and keep the same sense of humor that has also contributed to my longevity. Reaching 100 years of age and beyond is not an impossible goal for me.

At age 22, I was hit by a drunken driver. I woke up three days later in intensive care. The aftermath experience was arduous, but a blessing: two months in a wheelchair, eight surgeries and crutches over two years, rehab after rehab. It all conditioned my thinking: I could not - just could not - take for granted being active. My first marathon (the '97 Motorola Austin) was a soaring personal achievement, and I've done others.

(Skip Anderton, 60)

In celebration of his 60th birthday, Skip Anderton plans to slalom ski a 30-mile run on Lake Travis. A skiing accident in 2001 that involved a badly shattered right femur and a blown ACL didn't stop him. Skip is back at it with his usual enthusiasm. This endurance run is to top his personal best of 26 miles, but also a reminder not take ourselves too seriously.

One day I found myself at the hike-and-bike trail, needing to get my legs going again. Six months later I had a knee replacement and have not left the trail at all. Toward peace, tranquility and a lot of healing. I am now a member of Town Lake Trail Foundation and have found a home.
I could not walk before and never knew that there was another world for me. At 71, I am now living the most important part of my life.

The ultimate luxury is working out at home. It is important that you create a space that is convenient and pleasant. My home studio has a lot of windows and sunshine and a great view of the fish pond and gardens. With the help of my trainer, choreographer Andrea Ariel, I am able to get a complete workout without machines and special equipment.

My wife, daughter and I do Songahm Taekwondo, which offers something for everyone. We do traditional forms (which range from 18 to 46 moves); light contact sparring; weapons drills; and even board breaking. It's always a good cardio workout, and we often work different muscle groups in class as well. We need to develop strong core muscles for balance, leg muscles for kicks and jumps, arm and shoulder muscles for punches and blocks.

I am a Level 6 gymnast at Olympic Hills Gymnastics. I have been in gymnastics since I was 6 years old and on the team for three years now. I train after school from 3:45 to 8 p.m. for a total of 20 hours a week. In summer I train 27 hours a week. I love gymnastics because it keeps me strong and healthy and it's fun!

"Running has been my only exercise for 25 years. It's convenient, inexpensive and social. It's kept my 5-foot frame at 100 pounds my entire adult life. Currently, there is a group of 10 ladies that runs before 6 a.m. every weekday. It's a support group in many ways. Our motto is, 'Whatever is said on the run, stays on the run.' We also meet the last Sunday morning of every month for a run and coffee/birthday celebration."

"I get a 60-minute weekly aerobic workout when I cut my grass. My battery-powered lawn mower has no 'self-propel' feature - it's propelled by me. Going up hills on my lawn is a little like a StairMaster, but with a better view!"
